Píotsa!
In the Rose class this week in Gaeilge we have been learning about all things Bia (food). We were learning how to write recipes and instructions using verbs in the ordú form. Using our learning we wrote instructions to make a pizza as Gaeilge. The best way to test our instructions and recipe was to make a pizza dough (taos phíotsa) from scratch! Have a look at our photos to see our recipes and how our pizzas turned out. Cómh blásta (so delicious!)

In the Willow Class, we have been learning about the ancient civilisation Mesopotamia. For art this week, we studied the Mesopotamia alphabet called Cuneiform. In homemade clay (made from salt, water and cornflour), we etched our names in this ancient alphabet. We left the clay to dry out before painting the slabs. We also practiced using the Cuneiform symbols to write messages to each other.
This month we have been lucky to have Ciarán from Run, Jump, Throw athletics come into use every Wednesday. This programme is funded by Sport Ireland and has been a really fun way to build and develop interest and proficiency in athletic areas like sprinting, triple jump, javelin and shot putt! As part of geography, history and science this month - we have been studying the industrial revolution and its impacts on farming in Ireland and around the world today. We have also been looking at the impacts of soil fertility and water availability as reasons for settlement, making links between farming in Ireland with the Assyrian and Sumerian people of Mesopotamia and Babylon from 3000BC - 539BC. As part of our learning we examined dairy farming in Ireland, looking at the process from cow to retail. We even became dairy farmers and food production workers making butter from double cream! We made the butter by shaking the cream in a jar and then separated the butter from the smelly, sour buttermilk. We then enjoyed our butter on cream crackers!! mmmm so yum! In art we examined the work of Irish artist Ronan Dillon who lives and creates work inspired by his surroundings in the West of Ireland. In this instance we looked at his sheep spray paint mark making and designed our own replicable sheep marks. We also looked at his sileage inspired prints and made sileage prints, with anti bird faces, using complementary colours and printing technique. Also - have a look at are completed migrant projects, we're sure that you will be impressed! Have a look at all our hard work in the photos above! A huge well done to all who ran in this year's elections! A massive congratulations to our new committee members elected democratically!
Active Schools: Mateusz and Eduard Green Schools: Tahreem and Rohan Forest School and School Garden: Scott and Liam Student Council: Sabeeh and Manaal Also included in the photos above are some images of our class working collaboratively on their Refugee projects. We can't wait to see and hear them presented next week! A great second week in the Rose Class! It was lovely welcoming back the library bus to Powerstown, a treat we haven't had since 2019! Everyone in the class got to pick a book to enjoy for the next 2 weeks during DEAR Time. We also had our first visit from Shane from Cycle Right Training. This week we were learning all of the theory that goes into making a good, safe and competent cyclist. Next week we will be putting some of that theory into practice when we get out on our bikes for the first time! We're all really excited!
In class this week we have been learning all about Migration in SESE and have been having really deep and thought provoking discussions about why and how people move around the world and within their own countries. On Friday we tested our knowledge with a Kahoot quiz! Welcome back and welcome to the Rose and Willow Class.
It has been a pleasure welcoming all of your children in to fifth class. They have all come back with such positive energy and we are really looking forward to getting to know them all individually this year. Should you have any questions about anything at all this year you can email James at [email protected] or Keara at [email protected] and we will endeavour to get back to you as soon as we can. |
